Last week end was back to my sister’s meadow but this time there was no fence making involved. Instead I got to do one of the things I’d always wanted to do as a kid and never actually got the chance : catch frogs. I’ve always had a thing for frogs, I remember when I first went to Florida, one of the very first things I bought was this, and we became best imaginary friends instantly.
I also remember when I was ten or something, and I tried to bring tadpoles home, hoping they’d turn into fabulous hopping frogs. Turned out they were not tadpoles, but mean salamanders’ babies, which tried to eat each other as soon as their teeth had grown (yes, salamanders have teeth, and so do frogs). Anyway, I’ve finally seen frogs for real, thanks to my sister and her swampy meadow. It’s quite fun when they hop all over your hand, you should try it sometime if you haven’t already. Enjoy the movie

Hey, I protest! you did catch and observe frogs when you were a little boy, you cute thing. Remember : We were near St Pardoux with Philippe and VĂ©ronique, enjoying the antics of frogs in a puddle when we were charged by cows. That sounds kind of ridiculous now, but they intended (and quite effectively managed) to protect their calves. Believe me, cows are BIG and even bigger when running (galopping?) at you! We ran away like crazy and dove under barbed wires to escape their motherly ire… (to this day I’ve been a little wary of cows. I prefer them on the other side of the fence.) I guess you got a little frustrated on that day at not playing with the frogs as long as you wanted…
See you very soon, ‘mate’.
